Data security
At BBVA, we are aware of the need to guarantee the flow of information between the Bank and its customers. For this reason, BBVA has the maximum security measures to guarantee the confidentiality of communications between the Bank and the customer. Transactional services operate on a secure server using the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol, which is always activated upon entering the service. The secure server establishes a connection so that information is transmitted encrypted using 128-bit algorithms, ensuring that it is only intelligible to the customer’s computer and the bank’s server; in this way, using the SSL protocol guarantees:
- That the customer is communicating their data to the BBVA server center and not to any other attempting to pose as such.
- That the data travels encrypted between the customer and the BBVA server center, preventing its potential reading or manipulation by third parties.
You should always check that you are entering your data on a secure page. Remember to follow these security rules whenever your personal data is requested online:
1. Verify that the connection is being made through a secure server by checking any of the following aspects:
- Through the server address (URL), as on a secure server it starts with https: whereas it normally does with http.
- Through an indication from your browser program consisting of a full key appearing in one of the lower corners of the screen (instead of a broken one as on any non-secure server) or a closed padlock (instead of an open one as on any non-secure server).
2. Check the security certificates of the page you are on:
To do this, click on the padlock icon that appears when accessing a secure area, in the lower right part of your browser, and verify that the expiration date and the domain of the certificate are valid. The detailed information shows the issuer, the validity period, and to whom the certificate was issued.
To ensure these measures are effective, you must always keep your devices’ browser and operating system up to date.
And remember that BBVA will never send you an email requesting your personal data. Should you receive a message to this effect, please do not provide any data and contact the BBVA telephone number 900 102 801 immediately.
